Should Lottery Be Banned?
A lottery is type of gambling that has the element of chance. Many people purchases one ticket on which numbers are written to win prize money, after then these numbers are selected randomly and winner is designated. While some people say that lottery is good idea, lottery should be banned because lottery is legal gambling, it is theft of labor, it causes pecuniary loss and intangible damages, and it is sin to our religion.
Firstly, lottery is a legal gambling because it is a policy supported by government. One lottery director says that lotteries are different from any other gaming product. Lottery players risk a small amount of money against very long odds to win a large prize. If they can’t win a large prize, they want to take this risk again and again. So lottery can addict like gambling. Gambling requires not only chance but also skill unlike lottery. Lottery does not involve skill at all. There is an equal chance of winning for everybody. But the more lottery players buy ticket the more their chance of winning increases.
Secondly, Lottery is theft of labor. People work to earn for hours and they earn money in their own right but some people win money without doing anything thanks to lottery. These people go on living with this money for a length of time. Moreover they might leave their jobs as they depend on prize money.  Later, when they get through money, they are at a loss. They have to start all over again.
Thirdly, lottery causes pecuniary loss and intangible damages. As long as people don’t win a large prize, they continue playing lotteries. They spend more money on lottery and put their families in an awkward position. Therefore, most marriages end in divorce and which causes traumatic events in families. On the other hand, if people gain too much money with lottery, it affects badly their lives. They don’t know how to spend money. Generally, people waste the money that they won. The money even can lead separation among members of family because family members want to do different things with the money and there become huge arguments.
Finally, lottery is sin in Islam because it is a form of gambling. All forms of gambling: staking money on card games; horse racing; gambling machines etc. are all forbidden in Islam. In the Holy Qur'an where Allah says: "O who you believe! Intoxicants (e.g. alcohol) and gambling and idols and (lottery by) arrows are an abomination of Satan’s work, so avoid them so that you may get salvation. Satan's only desire is to create among you enmity and hatred by means of intoxicants and gambling and stop you from praying and remembering Allah. Will you not then stop? "(TMQ Sura Ma'idah 5:90,91) On the other hand, The Bible does not specifically condemn gambling, betting, or the lottery. The Bible does warn us, however, to stay away from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5).

To sum up, a lottery is a form of gambling. It requires taking a risk. As long as people don’t win a large prize, they become addicted it. Lottery can be refered as unearned gain. People have a large amount of money in a while and they don’t know how to spend it consciously. They waste whole of money. Pecuniary loss and intangible damages come out in society. In addition to these, it is sin in our religion. Therefore, lottery should be banned.

Should school provide moral education for youth, or should instruction in values be left to parents?

Morals consist of the good and the right things to be done. Children are not born with the awareness of ethical behaviours. They should learn how they have to treat from parents. While people say that school provide moral education for youth , instruction in values should be left to parents because the basis of moral education begins in family, children learn easier and faster  during the period between 0 – 6 years, if instruction in value be left to school, moral education can’t provide exactly for youth.
First of all, the basis of moral education begins in family because a child first sees the light of day near his family. They learn most of bad or good things from their parents so family structure is significant for youth’s moral education. Children draw a moral map by encoding information took from their family singly on their brain and they apply the map in brain when they face an event. Children act upon moral principles that are learnt by family in school age and school also keep on providing moral education. The youth realize whether something is right or wrong thanks to new information which they learnt. Although much more thighs are taught in school, that children have the basis of moral education from their parents is a crystal-clear fact.
Children learn easier and faster during the period between 0 – 6 years. This period fall on time which is spent with family before school. Children learn ethical rulers as well as basis behaviours such as talking, walking and feeding. It is accepted that 0-6 age range is a period which learning abilities are maximum by experts. According to Jean Piaget’s moral development theory, moral values develop being parallel to cognitive enhancement and occur in successive periods. In other words, if a child doesn’t learn something at his mother's knee, in the future, that the child accepts moral rulers and carries out is not be easy.  Therefore, in this development process, definite matters certainly have to be taught in definite period.
If instruction in value is left to school, moral education can’t provide exactly for youth. There are people who have different cultures but moral values are not different from each other in a society. The youth can affect each other in a good or bad way.  They can change their moral values learnt from parents by behaviours which they observe from others. Consequently, there is not a possibility that teachers concern every student one by one. Therefore, moral education should provide in family. The youth should integrate these information in school.
In summary, instruction in values should be left to parents. If moral education is provided by parents, that school is provided is quite difficult. You imagine that you try to build a structure without basis. Both situations resemble each other. Instruction in value should be left to parents. Otherwise, teachers can’t provide influentially moral education as well school lessons because there are a lot of students who are had to be interested. Even if teachers try to teach ethical behaviours, the youth’s effective learning period is past. Family is building block of society. Therefore, moral education should be provided by parents.

The Effects of Watching Too Much Television-Cause and Effect Essay1-First Draft

                                                    Feyzanur Öztürk
                                                    April 12, 2014

The Effects of Watching Too Much Television
Television which is an indispensable part of the life is one of the best inventions in history of the humanity. In early years, only affluent family belong television, but it is almost every house now. Television’s harms are so much when it is compared with its benefits. To tell the truth, TV is also as addictive as cigarette, drug or alcohol. It includes TV series, TV shows and cartoons, and people watch them because of a lot of reasons. Watching too much TV causes some problems which are the psychology of children and adults, communication and social, and physical.
The first effect of watching too much TV is about the psychology of children and adults. People watch TV to stifle their loneliness, spend time or enjoy. People try to overcome the lack of emotion that they cannot experience in real life by watching TV. The epitome of this is TV series. For instance, people who have a monotony life watch TV series that exciting scenes to get excited. People who want to enjoy watch sitcom or reality show. Some of them watch documentary or sports. Thanks to television they get a great amount of information. Television gives us opportunities to see the best actors, sport matches, to learn famous people’s lives.   TV brings the world to their room and they become addicted it unwittingly. TV helps us to relax after a hard day work, but the news makes us annoyed and bored. On the other hands, watchers see people in country and in other lands, and learn of their cultures, opinions. People can be affected these different cultures or opinions. They want to change their cultures and opinions, but they don’t know whether it is right because everything seems different in television. Television causes to kill brain’s cells and undermine thinking ability. Especially, television affects children. Cartoons may include violence and fictional characters in there. Children might emulate and try dangerous movements. In last years, there had been an incident which was made the news. A child is affected a fiction character which can fly and jump from balcony. Also, these incidents carry weight with families.  They shouldn’t allow their children to watch too much TV.
Other effects of watching too much television are communication and social. TV dominates the life of the family most of time. The TV set isn't just a piece of furniture. It's someone who is ‘one of the family members’.  When family come together and they watch TV instead of talking each other. That leads lack of communication among family members. For example, my father is exactly an addict of TV. Even if our quests come, he doesn’t turn-off it. If there is noise, he warns children and asks them to go the other room. This attitude of him bothers us. Actually I was also an addict of TV who spent at least 10 hours in front of TV to watch anything that I could find. I would not go outside to catch TV series on time.  That situation had caused that I became an asocial person. I haven’t watch TV hardly ever in these days because I can follow my TV series when I want on the Internet and I don’t feel addictive to TV myself.
The last effect of watching too much TV is physical. That people watch TV at close distance result in visual impairment. If people watch TV lying down or sitting quite a while, their back or neck might be in pain. Watching TV too much can cause brain to compromise so eating disorder is occurred. While people are watching TV, they don’t want to prepare meal and eat junk-food. They damage their health unwittingly. Generally, children have visual impairment due to watching TV at close distance not adults. They suffer from headache or backache. Both children and adults have eating disorder because of television.
To sum up, nowadays whole generations are growing addicted to the televisions. In past, people used to have hobbies, to meet friends, to go to the cinemas or to the theatre and sporting events, to read books or to listen to the music, but now they just sit and watch TV. There are television’s benefits and harms, but its harms are so much. Although people watch it due to different reasons, they are affected the same effects. They can experience psychological and social problems or among their family members can be a lack of communication. There might be occurred some health problems. Consequently, television should be watched consciously.

Facebook and Twitter-First Draft-(Compare and Contrast Essay)

                                                                                                                       Feyzanur Öztürk
March 23, 2014
Facebook and Twitter
The Internet is the most significant invention of history of humanity. There are a lot of social networks. They have almost become indispensable for people. Especially, Facebook and Twitter are the two most popular social networks in the world. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004; Twitter was founded by Jack Dorsey in 2006. Although both of the websites have got similarities in terms of their purposes, there are some differences between them. Both sites differ from sharing format, communication and application format, design and user groups.
Firstly, Facebook is a multi-purpose social networking platform like twitter. They are used to chat, to upload photographs, videos or notes. Facebook and Twitter’s sharing formats differ in that people can share something they want as update status on Facebook while they can compose a tweet and add what they want to share on Twitter. Additionally, the most important difference between them is about their character limit for writing. Facebook has no character restriction unlike twitter. Because users have got 140 characters to write on twitter. Another difference is their ways of expression what people liked. If users like something on Facebook, they express using ‘Like button’ or writing a comment but Twitter users express approval of content by "Retweet" or "Favourite".
Secondly, Facebook and Twitter are used to communicate with friends, to meet new people and to follow journal. In addition to these, they have got different applications. The other important difference is the formats of making friends for both social networks. You add people as friends or like pages for having information about journal on Facebook, you follow to people and journal pages on twitter. As a result, both of them provide communicating with people and following journal. You can send private message on both Facebook and twitter, and block someone you dislike. You can see online friends on Facebook unlike Twitter. Facebook and Twitter differ in terms of their applications. You can play online games on Facebook, whereas there are not online games on twitter. It has got “Trend Topic” and “Hashtag” apart from Facebook. You compose a tweet using a hashtag. If this hashtag is mentioned by so many people, it is listed as trend topic. Trend topic list include up-to-date and enjoyable matters.
Thirdly, though both of them are designed shades of blue, their designs and symbols are different from each other. Facebook uses only ‘F’ letter as its symbol. Twitter’s symbol is a blue bird. Shades of blue are used for both social networks because blue is a cool calming colour that shows creativity and intelligence, and has a calming effect on the psyche. While Facebook’s colour can’t be changed, Twitter has got an option to change colours so you can customize your own.
Fourthly, nowadays people have begun to use twitter much more actively but not everybody. Most of them keep on using the Facebook. That celebrities usually use twitter rather than Facebook causes us to stereotype that twitter appeals to them more than it appeals to ordinary people. Facebook is available in 70 languages but twitter is available in 29 languages. Therefore, Facebook has more users than twitter. While the number of users is 1.15 billion (active September 2013) on Facebook, twitter has got over 500 million users. There are people in all age group on Facebook, especially teenagers. Most of them use Facebook for playing game. They think that twitter is boring seeing that there is no game. Actually, using twitter looked as if it was more difficult than using Facebook but it’s not true. Only some people think like that on the grounds that they are used to using Facebook and do not prefer to use twitter.
In conclusion, Facebook and Twitter take an important place in people’s lives. Both of them are used to communicate with people, to share something, to spend time and so on; in addition to these, they stifle people’s loneliness and enhance their desire of being popular. Thus, some people become addicted to these social networks. They want to share everything they did and their thoughts on these websites but this is not a conscious usage. In my opinion, people should use both of them at suitable time, in suitable places and in a suitable way.

Differences between Married Life and Single Life
These days people prefer staying single to getting married because there are some differences between married life and single life.  Marriage marks the beginning of a family and responsibilities, but being single means you are free. So freedom, responsibility and future plans are the biggest differences between married life and single life.
The most significant difference between married and single lives is freedom. People who are married can’t be as free as they were single.  For instance, if married people want to go out with their friends, they must get permission from their partners, whereas single people can go out with their friends in anywhere and at anytime they want. Additionally, single people have much more privacy in their life. Nobody bothers them in their homes and commands them not to be late and so on; and single people can live a free life. They can spend their time with their friends or hobbies. In contrast, married people are bothered by their partners and they have to take care of their children. So they can’t spare the time for themselves. They can’t live a free life.
The other difference is responsibility. Married people are more responsible and busier than single people. They have to manage their money or expenses economically every day. They are responsible for raising their children. Married people are also responsible for spending time with their families. In contrast, people who still remain single don’t have to look after their children or partners. Therefore, they are much less responsible than married people.
The last difference is future plan. Single people think about their future. They save money and make plans, but married people have to think of their future, children and their partners’ future. Generally, married people think about the future of their children. Single people can make their plans real, however.
Consequently, being single looks more comfortable than getting married.  However, after a while, people who are single might feel alone,  while married people have a partner to share a life. In my opinion, being a married person is better than being a single person, because every single person was made for somebody.

So they can’t spare the time for themselves. They can’t live a free life.
The other difference is responsibility. Married people are more responsible and busier than single people. They have to manage their money or expenses economically every day. They are responsible for raising their children. Married people are also responsible to spend time with their families. In contrast, people who still remain single don’t have to look after their children or partners. Therefore, they are much less responsible than married people.
The last difference is future plan. Single people think  their future. They save money and make plans but married people have to think of their future, children and their partners’ future. Generally, married people think about the future of their children. Single people can make their plans real, however.
Consequently, being single looks more comfortable than getting married.  However, after a while, people who are single might feel alone while married people have a partner to share a life. In my opinion, being a married person is better than being a single person, because every single person was made for somebody.
